Why manga rares lead the market
Most premium TCG prints dress a character up: more foil, new illustration, wider frame. Manga rares strip everything back — the artwork is a raw, black-and-white panel lifted directly from Eiichiro Oda's manga, screentone and all. For a fanbase that grew up on those exact panels, that is a more powerful pull than any new commission, and the market prices it accordingly: in most sets that include one, the manga rare is the most expensive card in the set.
Scarcity does the rest. Manga rares occupy the game's rarest pull slot, and because they have shipped since Romance Dawn (OP01), the early ones sit in the same supply-squeezed position as the set's other launch-era chase cards — except with deeper demand behind them.
Grading and condition
At these prices, grading changes the math. A raw manga rare and a high-grade slab of the same card can sit far apart in price, and the black-bordered, full-bleed layouts show edge wear mercilessly. If you pull one, sleeve it immediately and treat centering and edges as the first things a buyer will inspect.
Budget alternatives to the manga slots
You do not need a four-figure card to collect these characters. Every manga-rare character also has SP, SEC, and SR alternate-art prints of the same era at a fraction of the price — the character pages linked above rank every print by Waifu Score, and our budget rankings collect the best prints under $50 and $25 across the whole hobby.
